Hi, I am Sandhya Sethu, a Dubai based artist.

My work revolves around colorful still-life paintings and universes of fictional characters. It has been inspired by all the places I have lived in. I was born in India, and I spent my childhood in Nigeria, and then I was back in India again, only to go away to study in America for a moment and now I live in Dubai.

As I never felt like I belonged to one place, I created my own world; an amalgamation of everything I have seen and felt. It is a happy universe with super-saturated colours and it draws references from my Indian heritage, my Nigerian love for celebration, and everything else in between.

I quit my job in advertising in the hope of making my five-year-old self proud. I have always wanted to be an artist and I am happy to be on this new path.

Over the past two years, the most incredible things have happened, my art now hangs proudly at Mestaria Gallery in Alserkal Avenue. I have also worked on commissioned art pieces for EMAAR, private residences, and my pieces have found themselves in pop-up stores across the city. It has been a great start, and I'm excited about all that is to come.
